Welcome to Earthling Guided Snowshoeing!

Winter Wonderland

Step from the city right into Tromsø’s incredible Arctic wilderness on this exciting snowshoe trek - no experience required! Discover winter wonderland in the forest and visit stunning viewpoints!

The Experience

Begin your Arctic snowshoe adventure right from the edge of Tromsø — unlike other tours there’s no extra transport required!

With Earthling, you’ll step directly from the city’s outskirts into the surrounding wilderness for a truly sustainable experience. The tour conveniently starts beside the Fjellheisen cable car, one of Tromsø’s most popular landmarks.

Your local guide will fit you with comfortable snowshoes and trekking poles tailored to your height before leading the way into serene mountain forests. Along the route, admire the sweeping views of Tromsø’s fjords, peaks, and pristine Arctic landscape while listening to your guide share knowledge about local culture, history and wildlife.

As you move through the quiet winter scenery, listen to the sounds of forest streams and birdsong, breathe the crisp mountain air, and enjoy the satisfying crunch of snow beneath your feet. Keep your eyes open for wildlife — you might spot ptarmigan, a fox, a hare, eagles, or even a passing reindeer.

With a relaxed pace, there’s plenty of time to capture photos, ask questions, and simply enjoy the journey. Midway, there’s a break if you’d like to savor a traditional pastry and a warm drink before continuing your Arctic trek.

Level of difficulty: The specific route is flexible and difficulty level can be chosen according to group preference, ranging from easy to moderate, which requires a steady, 1 km uphill trek before descending. Some parts are relatively steep but no previous snowshoe experience is required.

The easy route is accessible to everyone. The moderate route won’t be difficult if you are relatively active and you have no relevant health conditions (e.g. difficulty breathing, joint or back pain). Previous experience on uphill hikes will be helpful.

What to wear: Weather conditions in Tromsø can change rapidly so it’s advisable to bring extra layers for warmth and rain and wind protection. It is often windy at the treeless, rocky summit and there can be strong gusts. What starts out as a calm day can surprisingly lead to weather that requires extra layers. Proper footwear is also advisable. It’s best to wear boots that keep your feet dry, offer comfort and good support! Sunblock and sunglasses are also a good idea.
